Government Care for Malaysian Aborigines
I would like to correct the impression that westerners have towards the lack of government attention towards the welfare of the aborigine groups in Malaysia such as the penans, sakai and the others. In Malaysia the government since independence had established a government machinery to specifically care for the welfare of the aborigine groups in Malaysia. This department is responsible to look into the affairs of all the aborigines such as the their need for finacial aid, schooling for their children, facilities for their community use and a host of other things that would facilitate them.I have seen newspapers reporting that each time an issue was raised about the aborigines in the papers you will see the government departments will rush to their aid.I have also read about their children making to universities and alot of them have been successful. We even have one of them being appointed as member of the upper house in our parliament. So,how can we say they are being neglected.A salute to the Malaysian government for the efforts to uplift and assimilate the aborigines into the mainstream.
